Nashville, known as the City of Music, is a magnet for creativity and artistry. I recently had the privilege of photographing an up-and-coming musician as she prepared to produce her debut album. This session was about more than just capturing portraits—it was an intimate look at her creative process, recreated in the same setting where the music was born.

Recreating the Creative Moment


The artist wanted to revisit the scene where she wrote the song that inspired her album. Her room was simple yet full of meaning: a mattress on the floor, a notebook brimming with lyrics, and a can of Diet Coke by her side. It was in this unassuming space that her creativity flourished, and my goal was to honor that authenticity.


Using 35mm film, I captured the raw textures and timeless beauty of the moment. Every frame told a story, from her concentrated scribbles in the notebook to the warm light filtering through her apartment windows.

A Hilarious Smoke Alarm Moment


We’d planned to add some dramatic flair with a smoke machine, but we completely forgot about the apartment’s smoke alarms. The alarms went off almost immediately, blaring through the building! We scrambled to open all the windows, and within minutes, neighbors from her apartment complex had come outside, thinking there was a fire. It was a chaotic, funny moment that added an unexpected layer of energy to the session. Once the smoke cleared—literally—we were able to laugh it off and dive back into the shoot.
